How to Verify an HND School and Programme in Cameroon

verify hnd school programme cameroon

To verify an HND school in Cameroon, check more than the institution’s name. You need evidence that the institution is authorized to operate in higher education and that the exact HND field, speciality, option and campus you want are covered.

MINESUP’s official private higher-education directory publishes institution records with creation and opening references plus authorized diplomas and specialities. Because authorizations can change and online directories may be updated after a new decision, combine the directory with current written confirmation.

The five things you must verify

Check Question to answer
Institution Is this legal institution name authorized to operate?
Campus Does the authorization cover the location where you will study?
Diploma Is HND listed, rather than only BTS, DQP, CQP or a private certificate?
Programme Is the exact field, speciality and option authorized?
Examination route How will eligible internal candidates be registered for the national HND examination?

Step 1: record the exact legal identity

Write down the legal institution name, campus address, promoter or responsible entity, programme title and contact details. Marketing names, abbreviations and social-media handles may differ from the legal name on the authorization.

If the payment account, admission letter and authorization use different names, require a written explanation before paying.

Step 2: search MINESUP’s official IPES directory

MINESUP maintains a directory of authorized private higher-education institutions organized by region. Open the relevant region, select the institution and inspect its accreditation-status section.

A typical official record identifies:

  • the institution and promoter;
  • location and contact information;
  • creation order or agreement;
  • authorization to open;
  • authorized diplomas;
  • fields, specialities and options;
  • academic tutela where applicable.

Save the official page or PDF with the date you checked it. Do not rely on a screenshot that hides the web address or decision number.

Step 3: match the exact HND speciality

Finding the institution name is not enough. Read the list under HND and locate the exact speciality. A record that authorizes Business, Finance and Management does not automatically authorize Computer Engineering, Nursing or Electrical Power Systems.

Similarly, a broad school advert may say “Computer Science” while the national nomenclature uses a specific option such as Software Engineering, Database Management, Full Stack Development, Network and Security or Hardware Maintenance. The official title matters during registration and results.

Step 4: confirm the campus

An institution may have approval for one site but advertise classes elsewhere. Ask whether the exact campus appears in the authorization or later extension decision.

Do not assume that online, weekend or satellite delivery is covered merely because the parent institution is approved.

Step 5: request the authorization instruments

Ask the school for readable copies of the creation and opening instruments and any later decision extending programmes, campuses or levels. Check the numbers, dates, legal name and scope.

A poster containing a ministry logo is not an authorization. Neither is a certificate of company registration, tax document or partnership memorandum.

Step 6: verify through MINESUP when information conflicts

If the official directory is missing, old or inconsistent with the school’s documents, contact MINESUP’s competent private higher-education services using contact information on the official MINESUP website. Provide the legal name, campus, speciality and decision reference.

An online omission does not by itself prove that a recent authorization is false, but the burden remains on the institution to provide verifiable current evidence.

Step 7: confirm the national-examination process

Ask how the institution handles:

  • Level 2 pre-registration or progression;
  • candidate eligibility and transcripts;
  • online national-exam registration;
  • internship attestations and reports;
  • practical and written examination centres;
  • results, failed transcripts and document collection.

The 2026 national notice reserved internal status for candidates presented by an accredited institution who could prove approved training. A vague promise that “we will register you somewhere” is not enough.

Step 8: inspect academic delivery

Legal authorization is essential but does not alone prove teaching quality. Visit the campus and compare the curriculum, laboratory, equipment, class size, timetable, staff, projects, internship support and safety arrangements.

Ask to see several recent student projects and have students explain their own work. One staged demonstration is weak evidence.

Step 9: verify academic tutela and degree claims

Some private institutions offer bachelor’s, professional licence or master’s programmes under academic tutela or partnership with an authorized university. Verify the awarding institution, programme, current agreement and diploma authority separately from the HND authorization.

An HND approval does not automatically authorize the school to award its own bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Step 10: protect every payment

  1. Obtain a dated fee schedule showing what one payment covers.
  2. Confirm the official account or payment channel.
  3. Pay to the legal institution, not an unverified recruiter.
  4. Collect an official receipt with academic year and purpose.
  5. Read refund, withdrawal and late-payment rules.
  6. Keep the advert, admission letter, fee schedule and receipts together.

Red flags that require more investigation

  • No readable authorization reference.
  • The school name or campus differs across documents.
  • HND is advertised but only another diploma appears in the official record.
  • Every course is called “international” or “national” without naming the awarding authority.
  • A one-year route is promoted without approved prior-study rules.
  • Guaranteed results, employment or foreign recognition.
  • Pressure to pay immediately into a personal account.
  • No written curriculum, examination process or refund policy.
  • Internship attestations offered without real placement.

Questions to send the school in writing

  1. What is the exact legal name and authorization number?
  2. Which decision authorizes this campus?
  3. Which decision covers this HND speciality and option?
  4. Is the advertised fee for Level 1, Level 2 or both years?
  5. How are internal candidates presented for the national exam?
  6. Which institution awards any advertised top-up degree?
  7. May I receive the curriculum, academic calendar and refund policy?

Frequently asked questions

Does appearing in HND results prove school authorization?

Results confirm successful candidates in a speciality; they are not a complete institution authorization register. Verify the school and programme separately.

Can a MINEFOP-approved vocational centre offer HND?

Vocational approval alone is not HND authorization. HND belongs to higher education under MINESUP and requires the appropriate higher-education framework.

What if the school is new?

Request the new MINESUP instruments and verify them through official services. Do not accept “the website has not been updated” as the only evidence.

Is accreditation the same as good quality?

Authorization is the legal starting point. You must also evaluate teaching, facilities, assessment, internship support and honest student outcomes.
