HND Admission Requirements in Cameroon 2026: Checklist

Cameroonian HND applicants reviewing admission documents with an academic adviser

HND admission requirements in Cameroon normally begin with a Baccalauréat, GCE Advanced Level or another qualification accepted by the Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP). The Higher National Diploma is a two-year, BAC+2 higher-education programme, and eligible internal candidates are presented for the national HND examination by an accredited institution.

HND admission requirements at a glance

Requirement What applicants should know
Academic entry qualification Normally a Baccalauréat, GCE Advanced Level, Brevet de Technicien or an accepted equivalent relevant to the programme.
Study duration Two academic years in an approved HND cycle.
Institution and speciality The institution must be authorized for higher education and the exact HND speciality should be approved.
National examination MINESUP launches the HND examination session; internal candidates are presented by their accredited establishment.
Foreign qualification An equivalence or authentication process may be required before the qualification is accepted.

The MINESUP order governing the HND covers the organization of studies, assessment and syllabi. MINESUP has also officially launched the April–June 2026 HND examination session. Exact deadlines, fees and file instructions must be taken from the current notice and your institution—not copied from an older session.

Who can enter an HND programme?

An HND is a higher-education route. A candidate generally needs a secondary-school leaving qualification that permits higher-education study, such as the Baccalauréat or GCE Advanced Level. MINESUP examination notices from previous sessions specify GCE Advanced Level obtained in one sitting in at least two subjects, excluding Religious Knowledge, or an equivalent recognized qualification. The appropriate subject background can depend on the speciality and the institution’s approved admission rules.

Holding a DQP, CQP or private short-course certificate does not automatically replace the Baccalauréat or GCE Advanced Level for HND admission. Read the accurate comparison of DQP, CQP and HND in Cameroon before planning progression.

How long does the HND take?

The standard HND cycle is two academic years. An older official MINESUP examination notice defines an internal candidate as one presented by an accredited establishment who can show proof of two years of training in an approved HND cycle. This matters: a one-year vocational course should not be advertised as the first year of an HND unless a current official instrument expressly establishes that arrangement.

Documents commonly requested for HND admission

Each institution publishes its own admission file, but applicants commonly prepare:

  • A completed application or registration form.
  • A certified copy of the Baccalauréat, GCE Advanced Level, Brevet de Technicien or accepted equivalent.
  • Secondary-school results or transcripts.
  • A certified copy of the birth certificate.
  • Passport-size photographs.
  • A copy of a national identity document where requested.
  • Proof of payment of the institution’s approved application or tuition charges.
  • An equivalence or authentication document when the entry qualification was issued outside the accepted national system.

Do not submit irreplaceable originals unless the institution’s written procedure requires them for inspection. Keep copies and receipts for every document and payment.

Admission to school is not the same as registration for the national exam

These are separate stages. Admission allows you to begin the approved two-year programme. Registration for the national HND examination takes place under the current MINESUP notice and normally involves the institution presenting eligible internal candidates.

Previous official notices required items such as the candidate information sheet, first- and second-year transcripts, the qualifying secondary-school diploma, a birth certificate, proof of industrial placement and examination-fee evidence. Requirements and payment channels can change, so only the 2026 notice and instructions from the accredited institution should be treated as current for the 2026 session.

Choose an authorized HND speciality

MINESUP’s official 2025 HND results show recognized specialities including Software Engineering, Network and Security, Full Stack Development, Computer Graphics and Web Design, E-Commerce and Digital Marketing, Electrical Power Systems and many others. A school may not be authorized for every speciality on that national list.

Before paying, ask the school to show that its authorization covers the exact speciality and campus where you will study. Similar marketing names are not enough; the name on your registration should match the official speciality.

Seven checks before you enrol

  1. Confirm that you hold the correct entry qualification.
  2. Ask for the institution’s MINESUP authorization details.
  3. Confirm that the exact HND speciality and campus are approved.
  4. Verify that the programme lasts two academic years.
  5. Request a written fee schedule, refund policy and academic calendar.
  6. Ask how industrial placement, practical work and examination registration are handled.
  7. Confirm that eligible students are presented for the national HND examination.

Frequently asked questions

Can I study HND with only GCE O Level?

Normally, GCE O Level alone is not the higher-education entry qualification for HND. Students commonly continue to GCE Advanced Level or pursue an approved vocational route whose own entry conditions they meet.

Can I enter HND with a DQP or CQP?

A DQP or CQP does not automatically grant HND admission. You must also satisfy the formal HND academic entry conditions unless a current official rule recognizes a specific alternative.

Is HND a national examination?

Yes. MINESUP launches the national HND examination, while accredited institutions prepare and present eligible internal candidates.

Can I use a foreign qualification?

Possibly, but MINESUP equivalence or authentication may be required. Begin that process early and obtain written confirmation before paying tuition.
